ABOUT THE NEWARK HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC TRAINING DEPARTMENT... |
| The Newark City Schools Athletic
Training Program was started 22 years ago. Currently,
we have on staff one full time Head Athletic Trainer
and one Assistant Athletic Trainer. The Head Athletic
Trainer is available during the school day to valuate,
treat, and rehabilitate student / athletes during their
lunch periods. Practice and event coverage is scheduled
based on factors such as risk of injury, number of participants,
level of play (varsity, jv, freshman, etc.), and site.
We work closely with the Athletic Director, Coaching
Staff, Physicians, and other allied health care professionals
to provide medical coverage for over 500 Athletes at
the high school. Each year, in conjunction with our
Team Physicians, we provide 1 physical exam opportunity
for any Newark City School Student / Athlete. These
physical exams are given at the Evans Athletic Complex
for a minimal cost. All proceeds from these physical
exams directly benefit our student / athletes, with
all money collected used to cover the exam expenses
and for the purchase of equipment and supplies for the
Athletic Training Program.
We practice as Athletic Trainers under the laws of
the state of Ohio. Under the law we must have a physician
referral to do extended treatment and rehabilitation.
If a referral is necessary we will assist you in any
way possible to expedite the process. Student / athletes
who see a physician for an injury are required to bring
a note from the physician stating the nature of the
injury and any restrictions and instructions. In non-emergency
cases, the best avenue for referral is for the student
/ athlete to see the Athletic Trainer prior to seeing
a physician. The Athletic Trainer will fill out a physician
referral form that is to be completed by the physician
and returned to the Athletic Trainer prior to any rehabilitation,
or return to participation. We are fortunate to have
such outstanding Team Physicians who allow us to care
for minor injuries under a standing referral in the
training room. It is our goal to provide the best and
most efficient medical coverage for our student / athletes.
We are also available to do initial injury screenings
for middle school athletes. It is required that a coach
or parent call ahead of time and make arrangements for
the student / athlete to be seen.
Prior to participation in any formal athletic event
(ie: tryouts, conditioning, strength training, practice,
etc.), all student / athletes must have, on file in
the training room, a completed Newark City Schools Athletic
Department physical exam form signed by a physician
and a completed emergency information form. Both of
these forms may be obtained in the Athletic Department
office, the Athletic Training room, or in the middle
school building offices. We would like to use
this web site to help keep you up to date on the services
available to the Student Athletes in the Newark City
School system, so all forms that are required from any
Student Athlete at Newark City Schools can be downloaded
from our Student
Athlete Resources page, here at newarkwildcats.com. |
