ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME NOMINATION CRITERIA...

2007 NHS Hall of Fame Nomination Form
Athletes
must have graduated from NHS five (5) years prior to
nomination and must meet five of the following criteria:
-
Selected an All-Ohio Athlete 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team
- 1st team All League / Conference for multiple years
/ multiple sports
- Was a member of a State Championship Team or an
Individual State Champion
- Was a member of an All League / Conference team
- Performed an extraordinary feat while at NHS such
as a State Record, League / Conference / School Record,
participation in a State Coaches All-Star game
- Was or is a professional Athlete
- Participated in college Athletics
- Achieved outstanding recognition/success outside
of NHS or OHSAA such as a college, conference
or national record
- Make significant contributions in their chosen field
of endeavor or contributed to their community or the
NHS community in one or more of the
following: Athletics, education, business, government
service or other humanitarian causes
Coaches must have been
out of the Coaching position for more than (5) years
and coached in the Newark system for at least (10)
years and / or been a Head Coach at NHS for at least
five (5) years and must meet three (3) of the following
criteria:
-
Had a winning record as a Coach
- Honored by peers or media at a District or State
level
- Coached a League / Conference or District Champions
team or individuals for multiple years
- Make significant contributions in their chosen field
of endeavor or contributed to their community or the
NHS community in one or more of the
following: athletics, education, business, government
service or other humanitarian causes
To Qualify for Honorary
Membership, one must be a supporter of NHS Athletics
and have Outstanding accomplishments in or made contributions
in one or more of the following:
- Athletics
- Education
- Business
- Government Service
- Humanitarian Causes

| The Newark High School Athletic Hall of Fame proudly inducted the Class of 2006 on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the Moundbuilders Country Club. Food and refreshments were provided at the tremendous turnout to see Mike Foote, Brian Moore, Sonya Swick, John Huffstutler, and Fred Hamilton oficially become Newark Wildcat Hall of Fame members! Congratulations to the class of 2006! |

Dr. Henry Rocco (Honorary) - 30 year voluntary team physician, covered home and away FB and BKB games, helped establish athletic training program at NHS, NHS Distinguised Service award, Ohio Outstanding Team Physician award, Honorary Member of the Ohio Athletic Trainers' Assoc.
Bruce Allen - Basketball: teams compiled 20-2 record in league play, 3 COL titles, 2 District titles, scholarship to Virginian Commonwealth Univ.; Baseball: 3 year letterman, 1st team All COL '82 & "83; Millisor Award as Outstanding Senior Athlete.
"Nard" Allen - Award 9 letters; Football: 3 year letterman, 2 time All COL 1st team, All District & All Region in '75; Basketball: 3 year letterman, 2 District titles, All Ohio Honorable mention '75; Baseball: 2 time All COL; Millisor Award as Outstanding Senior Athlete.
Mike Hannah - Baseball: 3 year letterman, 3 COL Championships; played basketball & baseball at Muskingham College as a freshman, transferred to Ohio University to play baseball only where he holds all time records for career batting ave. and slugging percentage, 1st Team All MAC '70 & '71, All American '69 & '70, Regional player-of-the-year '70 & '71, played 2 years AAA in the Cleveland Indians organization.
Gary Walters - Began teaching/coaching career in Newark in '67, coached football, basketball, track and baseball while teaching at Conrad & Roosevelt, appointed head basketball coach at NHS in '72, Div I coach of the year '92 & '99, Paul Walker Award '99 for outstanding active coach in Ohio, OHSBCA Hall of Fame '2002, over 27 years won: 12 league championships, 16 sectionals, 7 district titles and 1 regional crown; overall record of 407-199. |
