| The
Wilson Middle School Football Team sold raffle tickets for
a fundraising activity. The prize was a $100 value automobile
detail from Ervin Body Shop on Everett Avenue. The winning
ticket was pulled at halftime of the game versus New Albany
Wednesday 8-29-07 at Evans Athletic Complex. The winner
was Jim Brookbank. Jim's grandson Evan plays for the Tigers
and scored a touchdown in the game. It was a good night for
the Brookbank family, however, the Tigers dropped their home
opener 44 to 8.

Newark 6 Gahanna East 14
The 8th grade closed out the season at Gahanna East
MS, dropping a hard fought contest 14-6. Tracey Lee
scored on a 40 yard run in the 1st quarter. Shawn Dillion
had 50 yards rushing on 9 carries. Brock Harter and
Lee both had interceptions. Teddy Metzen (5), Isaiah
Walters (4), and Brandon Fowler (4) were the leading
tacklers. Jordan Comer blocked a punt.

Newark 14 Lancaster Sherman 16
The Newark 8th grade football team came up short again,
losing to Lancaster Sherman 16 to 14. The Wildcat attack
was led by Shawn Dillon with 55 yards rushing and 54
yards receiving. Shawn rushed for one touchdown and
caught a 34 touchdown pass from Grant Russell. Tracey
Lee rushed for 50 yards and one 2-point conversion.
Grant Russell passed for 127 yard. Brock Harter had
78 yards receiving and A.J. Oiler with 15 yards receiving.
Hunter McCoy filled in for an injured Grant Russell
in the first half and played outstanding. The defense
was led by Tracey Lee with 8 tackles, Brandon Fowler
with 7 tackles and Mason Young with 7 tackles. The Newark
Wildcats 8th grade team wraps up the season by traveling
to Gahanna East next Thursday.

Newark 24 Lancaster Ewing 32
The Newark Wildcats 8th grade football team lost another
close game to Lancaster Ewing 32 to 24. Grant Russell
led the Wildcats attack by going 13 of 23 for 147 yards
and two touchdowns. Brock Harter and Shawn Dillon each
caught a touchdown pass. Shawn Dillon ran for a touchdown.
A.J. Oiler caught a two point conversion and Grant Russell
ran for a two point conversion. On defense, Brandon
Fowler led the team in tackles with 9, followed by Tracey
Lee with 6 and Teddy Metzen and Nick Roberts with 5
each. The Wildcats play next Thursday at Lancaster Sherman
at 5:30 p.m.

Newark 12 Delaware Dempsey 20
The Newark 8th grade football team lost another close
game to Delaware Dempsey, 20 to 12. Grant Russell threw
for 2 touchdown passes, one to Brock Harter and one
to A.J. Oiler. Tracey Lee and Shawn Dillon led the rushing
attack combining for 80 yards rushing. Brandon Fowler
led the defense with 6 tackles. The next game for the
8th grade will be Thursday, 1 October, at Lancaster
Ewing.

Newark 20 Olentangy Liberty 36
The offensive line played an outstanding game by opening
up holes and protecting the quarterback. The offensive
line players are Jordan Comer, Max Hughes, Nick Pancini,
Ethan Joliff, and Mason Young. Shawn Dillon led the
Wildcats on offense with 147 yards rushing, 52 yards
receiving, and two touchdowns. Grant Russell was 13
for 25 passing for 128 yards with one touchdown pass
to A.J. Oiler and a 2 point conversion to Tristin Leavitt.
On defense, Nick Roberts intercepted a pass and Nate
Alexander recovered a fumble. The leading tacklers were
Brenton Williams and Brandon Fowler.

Newark 20 Westerville Blendon 26
The Newark Wildcats 8th grade team played an outstanding
game but came up short in losing to a tough Westerville
Blendon 26 to 20. Grant Russell had 141 yards passing,
one rushing touchdown and a 2 point conversion pass
to A.J. Oiler. Tracey Lee finished with 71 yards rushing
and one touchdown. Shawn Dillon found the endzone with
an 8 yard rushing touchdown. Brock Harter had 119 yards
receiving. On defense, Brandon Fowler and Nate Alexander
led the team with 9 tackles each. Nate Alexander had
three sacks followed by Jordan Comer and Teddy Metzen
with 2 sacks each. The Newark Wildcats 8th grade team
plays at home next Thursday against Olentangy Liberty.

Newark 22 Watkins Memorial 24
The 8th grade Wildcats dropped a heartbreaker in the
final 9 seconds of the game. The Watkins Warriors came
out with the victory 24-22. Grant Russell was 15 of
22 for 204 yards passing and 2 touchdowns, Russell also
scored on a 2 yard run. Brock Harter and Derek Woodruff
were on the receiving end of the 2 touchdowns and A.J.
Oiler had 6 catches for 99 yards. On the defensive side
Brandon Fowler and Tracey Lee lead the team in tackles
with 6 and 7 respectively.

Heritage-Wilson 0 Lancaster Sherman 20
The 8th grade fell to 1-5 after a 20-0 loss at Lancaster
Sherman. Daniel Ranz was 8 of 10 passing for 75 yards.
Evan Brookbank carried the ball 11 times for 49 yards.
Devonta Shackleford was the leading receiver with 44
yards on 5 receptions. The defense was lead by Billy
Ramsey with 11 tackles. The 8th grade closes out the
2008 season on Thursday October 9th vs. Newark Liberty.
The game will be at White Field following the 7th grade
game.

Lancaster Ewing 14 Newark Liberty 0
Sharode Simpson had a fumble recovery while leading
the Jaguars in tackles for the game. Liberty concludes
the season at White Field 7pm. Thursday versus Newark
Middle School.

Heritage Wilson 8th 0 Lancaster Ewing 26
Evan Brookbank had 66 yards on 15 carries. Jalen Dartis
was 4 of 9 passing for 48 yards. The long play of the
day was a 25 yard completion to Brandon Pool. Defensively
Devonta Shackleford, Tyler Kuhnes, Kyler Miller, Pool
and Dartis had at least 5 tackles each. The team travels
back to Lancaster October 2nd to face Sherman. Record:
1-4.

Liberty 12 Westerville Walnut Springs 24
Liberty fell behind 24 to 0 and rallied with two touchdowns
in the second half, but failed to add the two-point
tries. Four turnovers derailed the Jaguars offense.
The last turnover derailed a promising drive in the
game's final minutes. Chrishawn Blackburn rushed for
two touchdowns while compiling 118 yards for the contest,
his second consecutive effort over 100 yards. Jordan
Goddard, Sherode Simpson and Spencer Wilson paved the
way for Blackburn and Chris Erhardt who added another
40 yards to Liberty's rush offense. Wilson and Ben Sanders
had fumble recoveries for Liberty. Wilson, Sanders,
Simpson and Jeremy Thorton played solid defense for
Liberty. Liberty is back in action at Evan Athletic
complex Thursday versus Lancaster Ewing at 5:30pm.

Heritage-Wilson 24 Lancaster Sherman 26
Heritage-Wilson fought until the end on Monday night.
However, Lancaster Sherman came out on top 26-24. Evan
Brookbank had 144 all purpose yards and had a hand in
all three touchdowns. Including a half-back pass to
Jalen Dartis for a 30 yard touchdown. Daniel Ranz threw
for 98 yards and one 2pt conversion to Devonta Shackleford.
Defensively Brookbank, Dartis, and Tyler Kuhnes each
recorded 7 tackles each. The 8th grade plays again Thursday
when they travel to Lancaster Ewing.

Liberty 12 Sherman 24
Sherman came away with a 24 to 12 victory. Sherman scored
four touchdowns. Liberty was able to stop each after
touchdown try. Chrishawn Blackburn scored on touchdowns
runs of 45 and 5 yards, on his way to 135 yards for
the game. Sherode Simpson, Jacob Jones and Blackburn
were defensive standouts. Liberty plays at Westerville
Walnut Springs Thursday September 26th at 5:30 p.

Heritage-Wilson 14 Liberty 24
The teams battled in a close, hard fought, well played
contest. Final score was Liberty 24 - Newark Middle
School 14. Jesse Cartnal scored on a one yard quarterback
dive. Alex Severance scored on a 65 yard pass from Grant
Russell. Chrishawn Blackburn rushed for a 5 yard touchdown.
Chris Erhardt added all three two-point conversions.
Jeremy Thornton had an interception. Spencer Wilson,
Sharode Simpson and Jacob Jones were standouts for the
Jaguars defense. Liberty plays at Lancaster Sherman
Thursday at 5:30pm.

Liberty 24 Heritage-Wilson 14
Evan Brookbank had 52 yards on 9 carries with one touchdown
and a two point conversion. Tyler Kuhnes had 62 yards
on 10 carries and one touchdown. The defense was paced
by Brookbank and Devonta Shackleford with eight tackles
each. Kuhnes and Kyler Miller each had seven tackles.
Seth Tigner chipped in six tackles. The 8th grade is
off until September 22nd when they host Lancaster Sherman
at Evans Complex.

Liberty 0 Gahanna West 35
Liberty Middle School traveled to Gahanna West Thursday
September 4th for an 8th grade football contest. Gahanna
gained a 35 to 0 victory despite some strong defensive
play by Sharrard Simpson and Jacob Jones. Liberty plays
the combined Newark Middle School of Heritage/Wilson
on Thursday 5 p. at Evans Athletic Complex.

Heritage-Wilson 40 Westerville-Blendon 8
Evan Brookbank ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns,
he also returned an interception for a touchdown. Tyler
Kuhnes had a rushing touchdown. Jalen Dartis had a rushing
touchdown and 105 yards passing including a 68 yard
touchdown to Austin Hollingshead. Kassie Frye scored
one of the two point conversions on a run. Sam Wagner,
Lance Loughman, Thomas Winters, Kody Stuck, Phillip
Warner and Ethan Lefever all recorded sacks on defense.

The 8th grade football team from Heritage-Wilson lost
their home opener to Watkins Memorial 44-8. Jalen Dartis
was 10 of 19 passing for 134 yards and one TD. Evan
Brookbank led the team with 5 catches for 76 yards and
Austin Hollingshead scored the lone TD on a 20 yard
pass. Kyler Miller and Devonta Shackleford led the defense
with 5 tackles each. The team travels next Wednesday
to play Westerville Blendon Middle School. |

October 14, 2009
Newark defeated Gahanna East
The 7th grade finished the season with a win against
Gahanna East on Wednesday night. Their record for the
season is 5-1-1. The Wildcats ran for over 400 yards
7 touchdowns while passing for 95 yards and another
touchdown. It was a great team effort with 5 different
players getting in the endzone (Dayvon Davis, Khayle
Woods, Jordan Dartis, Tyler Ocasio, and Darius Shackleford).
Isaiah Dansby and Tyler Ocasio led the defense with
4 tackles each and Jerry Moran had an interception in
the second half. The defense kept pressure on the Lions
all night.

Newark 24 Lancaster Sherman 0
The 7th grade defeated Lancaster Sherman 24-0 on Wednesday
night. DaSanto Daniels scored rushing and on a 50 yard
punt return. Darius Shackleford had a 58 yard touchdown
reception from Jordan Dartis. On defense Josh Perkins
recorded 15 tackles, causing havoc the entire game from
the nose guard position. Dayvon Davis and Bobby Spring
each had 9 tackles. Please come support the 7th grade
in their season finale Wednesday October 14th, game
time is 5:15pm at the Evans Complex.
Another note Steven Jervis #7 was injurded during the
game and was transported to LMH by medics for a precautionary
evaluation. He was released from LMH with a strained
back and should be able to play in the final game.

Newark 44 Lancaster Ewing 20
The 7th grade Wildcats defeated Ewing 44-20 at the Evans
Complex. DaSanto Daniels had two rushing touchdowns
and an interception returned for another. Darius Shackleford
had 117 yards receiving with 2 TD's and Alex Costa had
a 12 yard TD reception. Khyle Woods, Dylan Watters,
Trent Delcecato and Shackleford each converted 2 point
conversions. Braxton Sparrow and Woods led the defense
that also got great effort from Austin Mays, Dylan Maring,
and Tyler Ocasio. The 7th grade will face Lancaster
Sherman next Wednesday at Evans, game time is 5:30pm.

Newark 32 Olentangy Orange 8
The 7th grade Wildcats traveled to Olentangy Orange
MS and returned with a victory 32-8. Jordan Dartis was
9 of 10 for 152 yards and 4 touchdowns. Darius Shacklefored
caught 3 of the touchdown passes for 76 yards. Dylan
Watters had 36 yards on 2 receptions with one touchdown.
DaSanto Daniels found the endzone on a 16 yard carry,
finishing the night with 66 yards on 11 carries. Dayvon
Davis made key blocks to spring the running game. The
offensive line of Dylan Maring, Gage Campbell, Drevyn
Taylor, Isaiah Dansby, Bobby Spring and Jerry Moran
dominated the line of scrimmage.
The defense was lead by Josh Perkins and Austin Mays
with 6 tackles each. Malik Bailey and Dylan Watters
each made interceptions. Bailey also blocked a punt.
The 7th grade now has their final 3 games all at home,
Evans Complex. First up is Lancaster Ewing next Wednesday
at 5:30pm.

Newark 6 Olentangy Liberty 14
The 7th grade Wildcats lost on the road against Olentangy
Liberty 14-6. Jordan Dartis completed a 65 yard touchdown
pass to Darius Shackleford in the 1st quarter for the
only score. Josh Perkins had 10 tackles, Khyle Woods
8, and Austin Mays 5 to lead the defense. Dylan Watters
had an interception. The 7th grade travels to Olentangy
Orange MS next Wednesday.

The 7th grade game ended in a 26-26 tie against Westerville
Blendon. Jordan Dartis threw for a touchdown and ran
for another. Darius Shackleford had 109 yards receiving
and a touchdown. Khyle Woods scored a touchdown and
DaSanto Daniels converted a 2 point conversion. Josh
Perkins recovered two fumbles and ran one of them in
50 yards for a touchdown. Dylan Watters had an interception
for the defense. The 7th grade travels to Olentangy
Liberty next Wednesday.

The 7th grade Wildcats held the Watkins Warriors scoreless
Wednesday night 34-0. Jordan Dartis threw two touchdowns
to Darius Shackleford. Dartis also had a touchdown running.
Khyle Woods scored on a two yard run and Austin Mays
scored from 5 yards out. DaSanto Daniels converted two
of the 2-pt conversions and finished with 120 yards
rushing. The team combined for 212 yards on 29 carries.
Defensively Dylan Watters and Brian Cabiness had interceptions
and Dillon Coventry recovered a fumble. Austin Mays
blocked a punt. Josh Perkins had 6 tackles from his

Dacian Cabiness ran for 179 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Tracey Lee had 45 yards rushing and 68 yards receiving
for two touchdowns. Michael Gartner rushed for 50 yards
and one touchdown.
On defense Noah Hupp, Gartner, and Cabiness lead the
team in tackles. Jeffrey Johnson recovered a fumble
and Dion Pressley intercepted his third pass of the
year. The 7th grade closes out the 2008 season against
Newark Liberty October 9th at White Field.

Liberty 24 Westerville Walnut Springs 34
The Jaguars traveled to Westerville Walnut Springs to
take on the Wolves Wed night. The Jags played tough,
but came up short, 34-24. QB Grant Russell scored a
touchdown and a conversion on an option run. He also
connected with WR Ted Metzen for another touchdown.
RB Shawn Dillon scored the conversion. RB Dan Pastorius
scored a touchdown on another option run and also had
the conversion. The Defense was led by Corbin Smith,
Brady Latham, and Brandon Fowler. The Jaguars will regroup
to play Saturday 9/27 against Lancaster Sherman @ the
Evans Complex. Game time is 1:00.

Heritage Wilson 32 Lancaster Sherman 22
Heritage Wilson runs record to 4-1 with 32 to 22 victory
over Lancaster Sherman. Dacian Cabiness scored 5 touchdowns
during a record breaking night. He had 6 carries for
269 yards that put him over 1,000 yards for the season.
Tracy Lee chipped in 74 yards and a touchdown. Michael
Gartner scored the lone two point conversion. On defense
Tracy Lee had an interception. Dion Pressley, Michael
Gartner and Noah Hupp recorded at least 6 tackles each.
The defensive line kept pressure on the quarterback
during the entire game. The 7th grade will face Gahanna
South next Wednesday at the Evans Complex, game time
5:30pm.

Heritage-Wilson 40 Liberty 8
Dacian Cabiness had three rushing, one receiving, and
one defensive touchdown. Tracy Lee had 4 carries for
103 yards and a score. On defense Michael Gartner, Tyler
Landerman and Dion Pressley recorded seven tackles each.
Record: 3-1. The 7th grade is off until September 24th
when they travel to Lancaster Sherman game time 5:30pm

QB Grant Russell Had another great performance throwing
for over 200 yards and completing 79% of his passes.
Tanner Campbell had the lone touchdown reception. Ben
Harden had the conversion on a 3 yd run. The defense
was not able to come up with stops and Heritage-Wilson
Backs made great plays to score points.

Heritage-Wilson 28 Lancaster Thomas Ewing 18
Dacian Cabiness scored 3 TD's. AJ Oiler ran for a TD
and a 2-Point Conversion. Tracy Lee scored the other
2-Point Conversion on a pass from Oiler. The defense
was lead by Michael Gartner, Jeffrey Johnson, Noah Hupp
and Derek Amspaugh all making multiple tackles. Dion
Pressly recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass to
seal the victory. The 7th grade will face Newark Liberty
on Saturday September 13th at White Field game time
at noon.

The Liberty Jaguar 7th grade football team played a
tough and very fast Gahanna West team Wed night at evans.
QB Grant Russell threw for 213 yards connecting with
multiple receivers including touchdown passes to Tanner
Campbell and Ted Metzen. Campbell also had an interception
on defense. The defense was overmatched however and
the Jaguars fell 42-12. The Jaguars will play the Newark
7th grade combined team Saturday 9/13 at Noon. The game
will be played at White Field.

Liberty 0 New Albany 26
The seventh grade Liberty Jaguars played a tough New
Albany team last night at the evans complex. The jaguars
battled through the elements but came up short, 26-0.
Brandon Fowler had a great game defensively with over
10 tackles. Caleb Keaser also had an interception. The
offense struggled to move the ball, but will regroup
for next week when they take on Gahanna West at the
the Evans Complex at 5:30pm.

Newark 7th Grade 30 Gahanna MS East 24
The 7th grade Wildcats were victorious against Gahanna
Middle School-East on Tuesday night 30-24. Dacian Cabiness
carried the ball 13 times for 272 yards and 4 TD's.
The defense was a team effort with many players making
tackles. Noah Hupp caused a fumble that was recovered
by Derrick Amspaugh. Dion Pressley intercepted a pass
in the end zone to seal the win. The Wildcats will travel
to Westerville Heritage next Wednesday September 3rd. |

18, 2009 - 2009 Junior High Soccer Tournament
Newark 0 Zanesville 3
The Lady Wildcats, short-handed with only twelve players,
frustrated number 3 seeded Zanesville for much of the
game but still lost their quarterfinal match 3-0 Sunday
afternoon at the Junior High Soccer Tournament at Kids
America in Coshocton. Number 5 seed Newark held Zanesville
to one goal in the first half with a stellar defense
from Hannah Minihan, Addie Gilkey, Meghan Wiemers, Kyla
Spears, Phoebe Nkansah-wafe and Morgan Parry. The Wildcats
provided much of the same defense in the second half
until Zanesville scored on a penalty kick with 10 minutes
left in the game to make the score 2-0. The Blue Devils
tallied the final goal with 3 minutes left against a
tiring Lady Wildcat team. Kyla Spears had 5 saves in
goal. Newark finishes the season at 4-8-1 with a strong
core of returning players next season and loftier goals.
The highlights of the season was the 4-3 OT victory
over Zanesville in The Harvest Cup and the defense pitching
three shutouts against Morgan (2) and Coshocton.

Newark 0 West Muskingum 3
Newark kept high powered and undefeated West Muskingum
to a low score but still came away with their third
consecutive defeat to end the season Wednesday night,
losing 3-0 at the Evans Complex. The Lady Wildcats (4-7-1)
couldn't muster much offense but kept West Muskingum
(11-0-1) close the entire game and didn't allow a shot
on goal in the second half. The defense was led by Taylor
Henson, Morgan Parry, Ciera Thacker, Hannah Minihan
and Phoebe Nkansah-wafe. Kyla Spears garnered 4 saves
in goal. This was the last regular season game for five
Liberty Middle School eighth graders, Minihan, Thacker,
Nkansah-wafe, Emily Mettille and Sarah Herman. Newark
(#5 seed) will travel to Kid's America in Coshocton
for the Junior High Tournament Sunday to face Zanesville
(#3 seed) at 2pm.

Newark 2 Philo 4
The Lady Wildcats suffered their second consecutive
defeat against host Philo (5-5-1) Monday night 4-2.
Newark (4-6-1) gave a valiant effort in the second half
after falling behind 2-0 at the half. Addie Gilkey and
Meghan Wiemers each tallied a goal for the Wildcats.
Kyla Spears and Phoebe Nkansah-wafe garnered 7 saves
in goal. Newark will host West Muskingum Wednesday night
in the regular season finale.

The Lady Cats suffered their third shutout of the season
at the hands of John Glenn Wednesday night 2-0 at New
Concord. Newark (4-5-1) and John Glenn (3-6-1) played
to a scoreless first half thanks to Ciera Thacker, Morgan
Parry, Taylor Henson, Hannah Minihan and Kyla Spears
on defense. Spears tallied 7 saves in goal. The Lady
Cats will travel to Philo Monday October 12.

Newark 6 Morgan 0
The Lady Cats returned to the win column with a 6-0
whitewashing of Morgan Monday night at Maysville. Newark
(4-4-1) led 4-0 at the half with goals by Caitlin Clapper,
Alison Cartnal and 2 goals by Hannah Minihan. Addie
Gilkey and Cartnal scored second half goals to finish
the scoring. The defense recorded their third shutout

The Lady Cats held Tri-Valley (8-1) below their season
average but still came up short in losing to Tri-Valley
3-0 Wednesday night at the Evans Complex. Taylor Henson,
Ciera Thacker, Hannah Minihan and Morgan Parry contributed
on the defensive side for Newark (3-4-1). Kyla Spears
tallied 17 saves in goal. Newark will travel to Maysville
Monday October 5th for a game against Morgan.

The Lady Wildcats had no answers for the attacking Lady
Devils (4-3-1) in a second round match between the two
teams Monday night in Zanesville as Newark lost 7-0.
Kyla Spears tallied 15 saves in goal. Newark (3-3-1)
will host Tri-Valley (7-0-1) Wednesday at The Evans
Complex.

Newark 2 Coshocton 0
The Lady Wildcats achieved their second shutout of the
season with a 2-0 victory over Coshocton Tuesday night
at The Evans Athletic Complex. Newark (3-2-1) and Coshocton
played to a scoreless first half. The Lady Cats scored
with 20 minutes left by a goal from Addie Gilkey to
make the score 1-0 Cats. Alison Cartnal scored with
10 minutes to go for the final score. Kyla Spears garnered
6 saves in goal for Newark. The Lady Cats will travel
to Zanesville Monday for a repeat contest against the
Blue Devils.

Newark 2 West Muskingum 7
The Lady Wildcats suffered their most disappointing
loss of the season at the hands of West Muskingum 7-2
at Zanesville Monday night. Megan Weimers and Addie
Gilkey scored for Newark (2-2-1) who trailed West Muskingum
(5-0-1) 4-1 at the half. Phoebe Nkansah-wafe and Kyla
Spears combined for 11 saves in goal. The Wildcats will
entertain Coshocton Tuesday night.

12, 2009 - 3rd Annual Harvest Cup
Newark 4 Zanesville 3 OT
The Newark Middle School girls soccer team earned their
first ever victory in the 3rd Annual Harvest Cup Saturday
night 4-3 in overtime against Zanesville at The Evans
Athletic Complex to gain possession of the traveling
trophy. Zanesville led 2-0 at the half before Newark
(2-1-1) began to command the tempo of the game. Addie
Gilkey scored to make the score 2-1 with 26 minutes
left in the game. The Wildcats then scored again with
15 minutes left with a goal by Ashlie Fracker to tie
the game at 2. Zanesville (2-2) then scored the go ahead
goal to make it 3-2 with 10 minutes left. Caitlin Clapper
scored the equalizer with 6 minutes left to tie the
game at 3. Regulation ended at 3-3 and headed to a 10
minute overtime. Newark scored with a golden goal by
Meghan Weimers with 6 minutes left in OT to win the
game. Kyla Spears garnered 6 saves in goal while Phoebe
Nkansah-wafe tallied 4 saves. Newark will travel to
West Muskingum on Monday September 21st.

The Newark Wildcats Middle School girls soccer team
suffered their first lost of the young season with a
3-1 loss against Philo Wednesday night at The Evans
Complex. Philo led 2-0 at the half and scored their
third goal early in the second half to take a 3-0 lead.
Hannah Minihan scored on a penalty kick midway in the
second half to cut the lead to 3-1. Kyla Spears tallied
5 saves in goal for the Wildcats. Newark (1-1-1) will
host Zanesville Saturday for the 3rd Annual Harvest
Cup at the Evans Complex Soccer Field at 6:30pm.

Newark 3 Morgan 0
The Newark Middle School girls soccer team garnered
their first win of the season with a 3-0 shutout of
Morgan at Zanesville Wednesday September 2. Scoring
for the Wildcats were Hannah Minihan (1 goal) and Alison
Cartnal (2 goals). Minihan tallied 1 assist while Caitlin
Clapper had 2 assists. Kyla Spears had 3 saves in goal
while Phoebe Nkansah-Wafe tallied 4 saves. Newark (1-0-1)
will entertain Philo Wednesday night September 9 at
The Evans Complex.

October 11, 2008 - Junior High
School Soccer Tournament Championship Game:
Newark 1 West Muskingum 2
Newark the #1 seed, faced West Muskingum the #2 seed,
for the Junior High Soccer Championship Saturday evening
and lost a heart breaker 2-1. The Lady Cats led 1-0
at the half with a goal by Shannon Loftus assisted by
Mary Kluisza. West Muskingum tied the score at the 12
minute mark and scored the game winner with 6 minutes
left in the game. Jennifer Partin tallied 6 saves while
Newark garnered 8 shots on goal. The Newark Lady Wildcats
finished the season at 9-5-2 as regular season champs
and runners-up in the tournament.
October 11, 2008 - Junior High
School Soccer Tournament Semi-Finals
Newark 3 Bishop Fenwick 1
The Lady Cats opened tournament play after a bye in
the quarterfinals as the number 1 seed and earned a
hard fought 3-1 victory over Bishop Fenwick at Kid's
America Saturday afternoon in the semi-finals. Crossley
Frankenberry, Austin Hickey and Shannon Loftus each
scored a goal. Frankenberry added 2 assists and Loftus
had one assist. Jennifer Partin had 5 saves in goal.
Newark garnered 15 shots on goal.
October 6, 2008
Newark 3 John Glenn 3
The Lady Cats won the Girls "B" division championship
in the Muskingum Area Soccer League with a 3-3 tie against
John Glenn (8-3-1) Monday night in New Concord. Both
teams provided the scoring in the first half. Mary Kluisza
tallied 2 goals while Crossley Frankenberry added one
goal. Megan Paulsen, Miranda Leach and Shannon Loftus
tallied one assist each. Jennifer Partin garnered 5
saves in net. Newark (8-3-2 League, 8-4-2 overall) will
finish league play at Cambridge Wednesday night.

Newark 6 Maysville 0
Newark outshot Maysville 16-3 during a 6-0 win Saturday
afternoon in South Zanesville. The Lady Cats secured
their 3rd consecutive shutout and 6th overall. Austin
Hickey scored 2 goals while Rachel Billman, Sara Rossingnol,
Shannon Loftus and Willa Neale each scored a goal. Billman,
Loftus, Crossley Frankenberry and Emily Mettille each
assisted on the goals. Sara Rossingnol and Sarah Herman
combined for the shutout in the net. Newark (8-4-1)
will visit John Glenn Monday night.

The Lady Cats posted their 5th shutout of the season
with a 5-0 victory over Bishop Fenwick Tuesday night
in their home finale. Austin Hickey, Megan Paulsen,
Crossley Frankenberry, Mary Kluisza and Rachel Billman
each scored a goal for Newark. Shannon Loftus had 3
assists while Blair Castle tallied one assist. Jennifer
Partin had 4 saves and the shutout in goal. Newark (7-4-1)
will travel to Maysville Saturday.

Newark improved to 6-4-1 on the season with a resounding
7-0 win over Maysville Monday night at The Evans Complex.
Austin Hickey scored a hat trick with three goals while
Crossley Frankenberry, Emily Mettille, Willa Neale,
Blair Castle each scored a goal. Jennifer Partin, Shannon
Loftus, Sarah Herman, Megan Paulsen and Frankenberry
each garnered an assist. Newark's defense did not allow
a shot on goal, while garnering 22 shots on goal. Sara
Rossingnol had the shutout in goal. The Lady Cats will
host Bishop Fenwick Tuesday night Sept 30th at 6:00pm
in their home finale at The Evans Complex.

Newark (5-4-1) lost their 2nd consecutive game Saturday
night against Granville at The Evans Complex. Jennifer
Partin and Sara Rossingnol combined for 12 saves in
goal. Crossley Frankenberry and Blair Castle each had
a shot on goal.

Newark (5-3-1) took an early 1-0 lead in the second
half only to lose to Philo (7-3-3) 3-1 Wednesday night
at The Evans Complex. Shannon Loftus scored for the
Lady Wildcats while Crossley Frankenberry had an assist.
Jennifer Partin tallied 5 saves in goal. Newark will
host Granville Saturday night under the lights at 8pm.

Newark improved to 5-2-1 with a 5-0 win over Bishop
Fenwick (3-2-1) in Zanesville Monday night. Shannon
Loftus and Austin Hickey scored 2 goals each while Mary
Kluisza scored one goal. Hickey had 2 assists while
Miranda Leach, Kluisza, and Jennifer Partin each had
one assist. Newark's core defense of Blair Castle and
Willa Neale held Bishop Fenwick to no shots on goal.
Newark tallied 20 shots on goal. Partin and Sara Rossingnol
combined for the shutout in goal. The Lady Cats will
host Philo Wednesday night at the Evans Complex.

The Newark Lady Cats Middle School Soccer Team moved
into first place in their division and improved to (4-2-1)
with a physical win over Philo 3-1 Saturday night in
Duncan Falls. Miranda Leach, Mary Kluisza and Shannon
Loftus each scored a goal for the Wildcats while Rachel
Billman, Kluisza and Loftus each had an assist. Jennifer
Partin tallied 4 saves in goal. Newark will visit Bishop
Fenwick at Zanesville Monday night. Halftime 2-0

season with a 4-0 victory over Tri-Valley Wednesday
night at The Evans Complex. Rachel Billman led the scoring
with 2 goals while Crossley Frankenberry and Lani Wright
each scored a goal to pace Newark(3-2-1). Austin Hickey,
Shannon Loftus, Billman and Frankenberry each had an
assist. Jennifer Partin and Sara Rossingnol combined
for 3 saves in goal. The Lady Cats garnered 28 shots
on goal. Newark will visit Philo on Saturday.

Zanesville 4 Newark 0
The Lady Cats traveled to Zanesville for the second
annual Harvest Cup, presented by Colorscapes By Design
and lost to the Zanesville Lady Blue Devils (3-1) 4-0
Sunday afternoon. Shannon Loftus led the Cats with 3
shots on goal along with Blair Castle with 2 shots.
Jennifer Partin and Sara Rossingnol combined for 5 saves
in goal for Newark. The Lady Cats (2-2-1) will host
Tri-Valley Wednesday at The Evans Complex.

Newark 2 Riverview 3
Newark suffered their first defeat of the season with
a 3-2 loss against Riverview at The Evans Complex Saturday
morning. The Lady Cats fell behind 2-0 early before
Mary Kuisza scored to make it 2-1 at halftime. Newark
(2-1-1) got the equalizer midway thru the second half
with a goal by Shannon Loftus assisted by Lani Wright.
Riverview (6-1) tallied the winning goal at the 53 minute
mark. Newark garnered 20 shots on goal led by Loftus
(6 shots) and Crossley Frankenberry (4 Shots). The Newark
defense was led by Blair Castle and Willa Neale which
held Riverview to 6 total shots on goal. Austin Hickey
and Jennifer Partin combined for 3 saves in goal for
the Lady Cats. Newark will travel to Zanesville Sunday
for the second annual Harvest Cup at 2pm.

The Lady Cats improved to 2-0-1 with a home win against
John Glenn Wednesday night at Evans Complex. The Cats
led at halftime 1-0 with a goal by Crossley Frankenberry
assisted by Mary Kluisza. The Lady Cats increased their
lead to 2-0 with a goal by Shannon Loftus in the 15th
minute assisted by Crossley Frankenberry. Jennifer Partin
tallied 6 saves on 7 shots in goal. The Wildcats will
entertain Riverview Saturday at 10:00am at The Evans
Complex

The Lady Cats tied Coshocton 1-1 in their home opener
at Evans Complex Saturday morning. The score was tied
at 0 at halftime. Newark (1-0-1) scored first in the
second half with a goal by Mary Kluisza at the 18 minute
mark assisted by Crossley Frankenberry. Coshocton tied
the game with 8 minutes left. The Lady Cats had a game
winning goal called off with 2 minutes left after an
offside call on a rebound off the post by Rachel Billman.
Newark garnered 12 shots on goal, Jennifer Partin tallied
8 saves in goal for the Wildcats. Newark will host John
Glen Wednesday night at the Evans Complex.

Newark 4 Tri Valley 0
The Newark Middle School Girls Soccer Team
opened their season at Tri-Valley with a 4-0 win Monday
night. After a 0-0 halftime score, Newark scored early
and often in the second half with goals led by Shannon
Loftus (2), Crossley Frankenberry and Rachel Billman
tallied 1 goal each. Goals were assisted by Lani Wright
(2), with Mary Kluisza and Frankenberry each with an
assist. Jennifer Partin garnered 2 saves for the shutout.
Newark (1-0) had 10 shots on goal and will visit Maysville
Wednesday night in league action.
Harvest Cup presented

This will be a traveling trophy for the winner of the
girls game each year to keep at their respective school
for a period of one year until next years meeting. |

Indoor Soccer Update 12.07.07
The Indoor Soccer Team consisted of 8th graders Ainsley
Fracker and Valerie McDonald, 7th graders Crosley Frankenberry,
Shannon Loftus, Mary Kluisza, Miranda Leach, Jennifer
Partin, Willa Neale, Blair Castle and Austin Hickey.
The team was coached by Greg Fracker and Jeff Castle.
Newark finished third in the
league (Tri-Valley, Philo, Newark, Bishop Fenwick).
The Lady Cats will participate in Spring soccer of the
MS division at NASA before resuming their regular soccer
league schedule for next Fall. |
